September 10 / Where is Everyone??
Hi! Just returned from my daughter's wedding Saturday. Spent Labor Day weekend in Victoria playing tourist as I had a close friend from here up with me for the wedding. Wedding went off without a hitch and was absolutely beautiful! It has been quite a year. Now am anxious to concentrate on what's next for Diane! Sister Katharine is moving back to Vic. from Van. (bought a condo) so I will continue to spend as much time as I can afford visiting her and parents. Would love to vacation somewhere I have never been soon, though!
Knowing everyone's Fall season is bountiful in every way!
Love,

September 10 / Spyware
I thought I would jump start the fall email chat with some comments on spyware. For those unaware of this marketing ploy, spyware is one or more small programs that are installed into your computer without your knowledge. They come embedded in larger applications such as Real Player and AOL. Spyware in the form of "cookies" is also installed by many websites you surf to. The only cookies you want to keep are the ones which remember your ID number for online banking etc. I will provide a couple of resources for you at the bottom of this page. One explains spyware in detail and the other is a free spyware deleting program that is recommended by many internet service providers and safe to use. To illustrate how quickly spyware can show up, I totally cleaned my computer of spyware three weeks ago. Today the program deleted 81 spyware applications.
Before closing, here is an example of how spyware works. We will take two computers...one owned by a woman whose main interest is travel and the other by a man who enjoys sailing. Both computers have spyware unknown to the owners. If these two people were to log onto the same website which has a lot of those advertising banners, the woman would get adds for vacation hot spots and the man adds for boats and marine related products. They would also receive spam via email as well.

September 10 / Monthly Walk
Hi Everyone,
Thought we'd try to step out for a walk on the 23rd. New season, new day, ie Monday. Who says retirees can't change their routine?
Looks like Oak Bay should be our destination. I guess the Penny Farthing from Willows Beach Park.
Any obtuse thoughts? Let me know asap.

September 16 / BC Visit
Aloha,
Here I am in wonderful sunny BC. Had lunch Sunday with Charmaine (Armstrong), Susie (Foster), Laurel (Page), Judy (Anderson), Roz (Johnston), Ann (Bonnell), Michele (Marinker), Kent Elliot and Gary Wilcox. Great times! Thanks so much.
Next Monday I'll be on the Victoria walk. Hope so much that a ton of you come out!!! It'll be fun!
Also, I want to announce the birth of my 3rd grandchild, Theodore Quinn Hanington Belton (Theo), on the 4th of June.
Anyone who comes to my lovely island please call me, I'll show you MY Hawaii.

September 27 / Luncheon
At the luncheon, we all promised that we would consistently add to the email chat. Well, I've been looking for all the "words of wisdom" and have been disappointed to find only one letter. Then it dawned on me that I was part of the group too. So here it is — nothing wise. If I think of something wise, I will add it next time. Good for you, Wendy, you kept up your part!! The luncheon was fun; it's amazing how the conversations seemed to flow as if there had not been a forty-year gap.

September 27 / Luncheon
Hey, Roz, good for you! I agree, the luncheon was really nice — a warm, affectionate get-together as old friends re-connect. It was good seeing everybody. Thanks Wendy, for the incentive. (Did any photos turn out?)
We spoke of getting together again, so, because time goes by so quickly, I propose we have a pre-Christmas luncheon in early December for the Vancouver gang, and anybody else who's in town and cares to join us.
