Victoria Walk and Birthday Greetings |
Hi all... |
And happy birthday to you, Mike!! |
It was good to catch up with some of the classmates on the walk in Victoria in early May. I fetched up at Diane and Ken Bryden's in Vancouver with pneumonia after getting drenched at Macchu Pichu and too many overnight flights. So husband Rob walked with David Foster, Brian Wilson, Jim Powell and Ron McKeever. I joined in at lunch at the Penny Farthing with Tammy Hinch Lacroix and Janice Hickman Sargent. Then we all dispersed before I remembered we hadn't got a picture for the website. What a shame. |
It was good to see Victoria - especially Oak Bay - in all its spring beauty. We had a couple of nights at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel, which is nearing the end of an era - if they manage to get plans through Oak Bay council. We also caught up with Martha Daysmith Baker and Marj Aaronson in Victoria and Connie Ballam Vanesse in Paris. |
All the best to all, |

Mike Turns 65 |
Just to let you know we are putting a few photos of our gathering at the Crow and Gate in the class scrap book. It was a good time at a wonderful location. |
As for me, the trip had its moments. Coming through the mountains the brakes in the Vette started to fade and by the time I got to Langley the brake pedal was putting a dent in the carpet. As luck would have it, our class mate Bill Evans answered my distress call and I hobbled into his driveway at Tsewassen where we worked on it for an hour. For the mechanics in the class, it appeared that a caliper overheated and boiled the brake fluid forming a gas pocket. And no, I was not speeding (very much). Then, to round everything off perfectly, one of those "old people" backed his car into the front of mine causing about 300. damage in Qualicum village. If that was not enough, he denied doing it and suggested it was all "a conspiracy."

Lunch up at Cedar |
I enjoyed the afternoon. Arrived at 4, and left at 7:30. Had a good visit with everyone and had no "car woes" coming or going. Ate the Crab Cakes at the pub and had no tummy aches. |
Wishing Mike all the best for 65 years. |
Hope our group party next year will be as low-key and fun as this one. We'll need to think of a good place for 50-odd grads and their spouses. |

When I'm 65 |
Belated thanks to the grads and friends who helped Pat & I celebrate my senior status! Included in the party were our two oldest friends, Tony Angus & Ginny (Ambery) Angus. |
Ginny and Pat were childhood buddies living across from one another on St. Patrick Street. Ginny's husband, Tony Angus, and I were youthful Junior Chamber of Commerce members in 1960 while employed by the T. Eaton Co. on Douglas Street. |
It is simply wonderful to have some good friends for a lifetime. |
Much love to all, |
Mike
