Oak Bay Beach Hotel / Snug
Hi all ~ Here's the latest official update on the Oak Bay Beach Hotel ~ Gary
We are pleased to bring you this update on the Oak Bay Beach Hotel Legacy project.  The short update is that we are continuing to make great progress, but here is some detail:
Sotheby's International Realty Canada are working with us in preparing for the final Sales Launch of the remaining Residential Condominiums available. The next launch is scheduled for June. We are confident that with the support of Sotheby's we will achieve our pre-sale targets and be able to announce a construction start date later this year. If you are interested in this purchase opportunity please contact any one of our team at the Presentation Offices at 1111 Wharf Street or by calling 598-4556.
Our Development Team has been expanded to include two new Development Managers and both are making great contributions to the design work and the overall visioning in our goal to deliver the new Oak Bay Beach Hotel to our site. Also, we are pursuing a Leed Gold Certification for the construction of the new building. We will still maintain the highest level of Green Key Certification for the management and operation of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel.
The Grand Opening date for the new Oak Bay Beach Hotel has been re-scheduled to 2010.
The building remains unchanged from the Development Permit that was issued by Oak Bay Municipality in August 2007. All of the amenities of the approved hotel remain including the Oak Bay Theatre Showroom, The Snug, The Spa and Pools, a fine dining room and a Coffee Shop on Beach Drive.
Again, thank you for your ongoing support as we have diligently worked toward the rebirth of the Oak Bay Beach Hotel.

In Memoriam / Dennis Patrick Dickson

Dennis Patrick Dickson
A very brief notice appeared in the Times Colonist today which reads as follows:
Mr. Denny Dickson, late of Victoria, passed away on May 1st, 2008, at the age of 69 years. Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday May 5th at 10AM at Sand's Funeral Chapel, 1801 Quadra Street.
Dennis, or Denny as he was know by his family, was four years older than most of us.  Dennis would often drop by our home unannounced but always welcome with an extra place at the table. His great enjoyment was music, where he played the drums in our school band.   After graduation he taught drums for Bernie Porter Music as well as working for his father at Dickson Bros. Service near the Empress Hotel. We are not certain what became of him through the years, and all attempts to locate him in Victoria at the time of our reunion failed.

Dennis Patrick Dickson
Former OB Band members Frank May, Alex Murdoch and David Harris attended the service with me this morning. It turns out that some years ago Dennis married Mary, who had 2 children from a former marriage. They were a very happy couple and Dennis was a very good father and then grandfather to 2 grandsons. He had a Country and Western band for years and was a popular singer/drummer in this group. We four OBHS alumni knew nothing about that aspect of his life. In turn, the family and friends in attendance at Sands funeral chapel had no idea about the Oak Bay chapters of Dennis' youth.
I gave them a copy of your [Richard's] website "chat" article and they were most appreciative. The family, through their friend at the service, have asked me to send them the OB class of '60 website address.
The family was very appreciative of our being with them this morning and each of us in turn was glad to have some closure and to be able to say "good bye" to our friendly, ever-smiling drummer from school days.
