June 3 / Scuttlebut
Word has it that "Big Bad Bob" Turner is back and has been seen around Pender Island by some. Is this true?

June 6 / Oak Bay Walk on June 20th
Rumour has it that Dave Foster will buy me a couple of beers if I make the jaunt from Salmon Arm to Victoria and join the group for the June walk. Having never turned down a free beer, I have decided that is all the excuse I need and so will see you there.

We're expecting an email from Dave momentarily...

June 6 / Another Round
I was on the phone with Tom Miles this evening and, as his computer is down for a couple of days, I have taken the liberty of sending a message on his behalf:
Overwhelmed by Dave's generosity, Tom is heading down to Victoria to join us for the walk and appropriate refreshments.

June 8 / Tame Girls
What happened to all the banter from the girls in our class? I'm going to be in England from the 15th to the 30th, but will cheer you all on with a pint, or two. It's a challenge to hear about the goings on, and not to take part, so send me lots of gossip to chew on while in jolly Old ...
Cheers,
Laurel

June 10 / Oak Bay Walk on June 20th
Dave Foster reports:
It's walk time again. I hope our stroll through Oak Bay, June 20th will attract a fit, chatty and nostalgic crowd.
We'll meet as usual at 11 — in the Willows Park parking lot. Should be on the walking path by 11:05. We'll traverse Beach Drive, pass Windsor Park, stoke up McNeil to Monterey and hence to the Penny Farthing Pub on the Avenue. Look for us charging through the doors to slake our thirst about 11:50.
Our returning route is usually Hampshire Road to the Bowker Creek trail, across the field to Lulie and hence to Willows again, but don't get the idea we're inflexible. It takes about 25 minutes max.
One time the crowded pub caused a little mix up. Some of us couldn't find ourselves. Let's agree to look for seating upstairs this time. If you're arriving for lunch but no walk, grab us a table or two.
If you're walking let me know. If you're only eating let me know. If you're not coming and have and interesting excuse that might incite a little gossip, let me know. If you would like to arrive as a surprise guest that's OK too.

We're still expecting an email from Dave, but anyone who's comfortable using words like "stoke" and "slake" deserves what he gets...

CHAT LINE CLOSED UNTIL JUNE 23 — SEE YOU AT THE WALK

During this past week our website was relocated to a new server, which caused some access problems. Sorry for the inconvenience — Gary
Great June walk — it was good to see everybody.

June 25 / June Walk
I may as well get things rolling by saying how great it was to see old friends again and that the walk was well worth the drive from the less than sunny interior. On a day that was threatening rain, we had a record turnout including a newcomer to our gatherings. It took us a few seconds to recognize Penny Dalby Evans in dark glasses, but pleased that she was finally able to join us.
A couple of days earlier, I had the opportunity to visit with Irene and Tom Miles in Comox and get to see their exceptional pottery and wooden toys. If you are ever in the town of Courtenay, stop in at the Potter's Place & Artisan's Courtyard on the corner of 5th and Cliff and enjoy.

June 28/ Victoria again
Hi all,
How sorry I am not to have planned my visit to Victoria to coincide with the walk!! Decidedly unstoked. Martha Attwell Downing and I had slaked our thirst at the same watering hole days before. It was good to catch up with some of you...and to enjoy some of the UVic celebrations of our grad class of '64 with Professor Youson. I have a good pic of us in the Snug which I may send on to Gary for posting on this web site. Funny how so many of those attending looked almost elderly, except John and me, of course. Had a pyjama party with Martha Daysmith Baker at the Laurel Point Inn, and we were joined by Diane Wiper Bryden at the Bengal Room of the Empress for a rather raucous lunch.
Enjoyed the whole visit - weather was great, and all the usual sites looked young and fresh. Sorry I didn't get to Pender Island, Terry.
A great week in Fiji on the way home...
All the best to you all,
Sandy
