Hollywood "B" movies produced in Oak Bay during the 1930s |

Twelve Hollywood films were produced locally through Willows Park Studio in Oak Bay between 1936 and 1938. An off-season exhibition building on the Willows Fairgrounds was converted to a soundstage where films were produced with stars such as Rita Hayworth, Edith Fellows, Charles Starrett* and Rin Tin Tin Jr. | These films took advantage of a loophole in the British film quota system and became known as "quota quickies." | Oak Bay's twelve "quota quickies" were: | |||||||||||
Although primarily "B" movies, these Oak Bay films helped launch the careers of such stars as Charles Starrett (Secret Patrol and Stampede) in 1936 and Rita Hayworth (Special Inspector and Convicted) in 1938. |
