They are now the core of the "May 2005 Reunion" committee, who will continue to meet on published occasions and any of you are more than welcome to join up. |
Peter, who attended the Oak Bay High School's information meeting Feb. 3rd , summarized the events planned for May 5-8, 2005. We discussed how our 45th year reunion might interface with these scheduled activities which celebrate 75 years of Oak Bay High School's location on Cranmore Rd. |
Peter stepped down from his chairman duties, as he wanted to turn the organization of this event over to someone else. Peter has done a great job over the years, which has been much appreciated by us all and on behalf of the class I thank him for his leadership and work to get us together for the past two excellent reunions. |
Ron McMicking gave David Foster the address database that Linda has kept for our class all these years. Thank you Linda for your diligence in keeping Richard's and Gary's address lists up to date which have been essential to our keeping in touch since 2000. |
I (Phil Johnston) took over from Peter and appointed Lianne as co-chairperson - so for 2005 you will have two redheads at the helm. You will be able to find us at "Red Headquarters." |
In discussion, there was interest in getting a "Class of '60" group together for the Reunion Gala Dance/Silent Auction at the Oak Bay Recreation Center skating rink (Saturday, May 7th , at 7pm with a band starting at 8pm.) This will involve separate and individual registration for the reunion registration fee, and for the Gala Dance ticket(s). I will investigate reserving tables in a specific area for 40 couples so that you and friends can book a table together, which per the brochure is 10 per table maximum. You register separately, and can keep the committee informed through either David Foster or Richard Goodall. The number 80 was suggested as a reasonable number at this stage of planning. EARLY REGISTRATION is recommended as it is anticipated that events will sell out. |
If you do not have a brochure, go to the Oak Bay High Reunion Web Site where you can register online or print a brochure. http://oakbay.sd61.bc.ca |
[or you can simply click here to download a brochure, 396K PDF - Gary] |
The Friday and Saturday events, such as the Tweed Curtain Tea or the Alumni Band Concert, may be of individual interest and are listed in the brochure. |
Sunday (Mother's Day) provides an opportunity for a class gathering/event, possibly at a school venue, or in someone's back yard for a group reception, coffee and/or walk about. More details will develop in due course and your suggestions are welcome in this regard. I want to keep it simple for a minimal cost that can be paid individually on the day. |
We will have the next Snug lunch meeting on Thursday, March 31st , for those who can attend. Dave may also arrange a walk for this date as well. |
Cheers
Phil |

March Walk on THURSDAY, the 31st |
Well! Who would believe ol' guys could break routine and not develop nervous tremors? Note we are walking on Thursday, not Friday! |
I've tried for a new route that will get us to the Snug for 11:45 a per Phil's request. |
Meet and park at Carnarvon Park at 11am. Take the trail, Haultain, Eastdowne to Cranmore. Cranmore to Beach Drive and hence to the Snug. Looks like about 45 minutes to me! See you there. |
There should be a few rides available afterwards. |
RSVP asap Sometimes it helps to know who's walking. |
